What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a form of medicine practiced by Doctors of Chiropractic or Chiropractors. Chiropractors work with bones, muscle and ligaments of the body to help relieve pain and dysfunction in the body. Chiropractors mainly focus on the spine and inflammation along the spine that can affect the nerves; this can cause a cascade of problems including pain. Using chiropractic to address and correct dysfunction of the joints and muscles, patients can experience long lasting relief.

Chiropractors pride themselves on taking a natural, drugless approach to helping their patients reach their health goals. Essentially, the basic principle upon which the entire profession is built is that the body has the amazing ability to heal itself (under the right conditions), and it is the chiropractor’s job to help create an environment to facilitate this.

Are chiropractors doctors?
Chiropractors are incredible doctors but they are not your primary care physician. Chiropractors go to school 9 years. They graduate with a DC which means Doctor of Chiropractic. Chiropractic education has a different focus than a Medical Doctor or DO. Chiropractors have considerably fewer school hours in pharmacology, medication management and emergency medicine. Instead Chiropractors have considerably more education in Nutrition, Anatomy and Neurology than the typical Medical Doctor.

Why should I see a chiropractor?
Chiropractors can do more than help your neck and back pain. Chiropractic medicine helps people maintain excellent health and combines nutrition, chiropractic adjustments, and general wellness care. Additionally, chiropractic care can help people with a variety of conditions from diabetes to fibromyalgia. If you are suffering from any discomfort, make an appointment with the physicians for the best chiropractic assessment and treatment.

D.D. Palmer, the founder of chiropractic, believed in a natural healing philosophy. It involved slight adjustments to the body to produce results without the need for drugs or surgery. In fact, his first patient was a partially deaf man. With a simple, natural adjustment, the man could hear much better the following day. This is the foundation of chiropractic healing.

When is a good time to see a chiropractor?
A Chiropractor is a great doctor to see if you have back pain, neck pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, hip pain or any spinal issues. In addition to being great at conservative treatment of pain, chiropractors are also very proficient in helping to recommend dietary changes and supplementation to help decrease inflammation and improve over all health. Many elite athletes use chiropractic to be able to perform at their highest level and are seen even without pain. This is not generally something that is needed for everyone. Our chiropractors believe that when a patient comes in our goal is to get you healthy and free from pain and then release you from care so you can get back to doing what you love.

Does Chiropractic hurt?
Our doctors use a computerized instrument called the Proadjuster to provide gentle adjustments that is much less aggressive than the manual twisting, turning, and cracking adjustments.

Chiropractic is widely recognized as one of the safest drug-free, non-invasive therapies available for the treatment of neuromusculoskeletal complaints. There are a wide variety of techniques and adjustments used in practice. Some treatments are more aggressive than others. The physicians at our office are thoroughly trained in multiple techniques, so they are able to deliver the most effective treatment or adjustment to address the needs of the patient. Many patients feel immediate relief following chiropractic treatment, but some may experience mild soreness, stiffness or aching, just as they do after some forms of exercise. The ultimate goal is to provide relief of neck pain, back pain, issues in the extremities, or other conditions.

A chiropractic adjustment (spinal manipulation) is the use of a specific force in a precise direction that helps normalize spinal function. The adjustment is applied to a joint that is fixated, "locked up," or not moving properly. Adjustments help return the bones to a more normal position or motion, restoring body's natural healing.

Is Chiropractic safe?
Absolutely!  Chiropractic is widely recognized as one of the safest drug-free, non-invasive therapies available for the treatment of neuromusculoskeletal complaints. Although chiropractic has an excellent safety record, no health treatment is completely free of potential adverse effects. The risks associated with chiropractic, however, are very small. Many patients feel immediate relief following chiropractic treatment, but some may experience mild soreness, stiffness or aching, just as they do after some forms of exercise. Current research shows that minor discomfort or soreness following spinal manipulation typically fades within 24 hours.

Also, our doctors use a gentle computerized instrument for their adjustments that does not involve any aggressive twisting, turning, or cracking.  For more information, click on the "computerized instrument adjusting tab" under services.

What can I expect on my first visit?
We want you to feel relaxed and comfortable on your first visit to The Chiropractic Rehab & Wellness Center. We will investigate the root cause of your problem with a comprehensive consultation followed by an examination that includes chiropractic, orthopedic, and neurologic tests and measurements. Your first visit will last about 30-45 minutes. Read more about what you can expect by visiting our New Patients Page.

How often do I need to see a chiropractor?
It's different for each patient. Treatment is customized to your individual symptoms and conditions. When you visit The Chiropractic Rehab & Wellness Center, you will receive a comprehensive consultation, an examination, and a recommendation for your care to get you feeling better as soon as possible.

Don't worry- Our doctors will not tell you they want to see you 3 times a week for the rest of your life.  However chiropractic treatment is based on continuity. Similar to physical therapy-it will take a series of treatments.  As a matter of fact, any treatment that works is based on continuity.  Think about an orthodontist-you don’t take braces off after one day-it takes time.  A diet also doesn’t happen overnight.  The treatment plan our doctors prescribe will give you the best opportunity to heal without the use of drugs or surgery.

Do medical doctors refer to chiropractors?
Yes!  Our office receives referrals from our established network of medical professionals willing to do what's best for the patient.  And if our doctors do not feel they are the appropriate physician for a patient's case, they do not hesitate to refer to an appropriate medical doctor.

Does insurance cover chiropractic?
It does depend on your specific insurance on whether you have chiropractic benefits but most plans cover chiropractic. The short answer is yes. In fact for most plans you don't even need a referral to see a chiropractor. If you have questions on whether your insurance plan covers chiropractic gives us a call and we will be more than happy to help you!
